Le goût de France Gastronomic Week presents various flavors of French culinary delights through various events from 12-19 October 2023. This event was by the French Embassy, Institut Français d’Indonésie or IFI, and Business France in Indonesia. The locations are across Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Jambi, Seminyak, Denpasar, Sanur, Ubud, Makassar, Medan, Pasuruan, Surabaya, Tangerang and Yogyakarta.
Apart from involving more than 150 restaurants and partner institutions in various cities in Indonesia,
the committee also held a French recipe competition. The main prize is a free trip to France to get to know its culinary specialties. The committee will cover round-trip plane tickets, pocket money, accommodation for one week, and visa.
The competition. Which is open to anyone, will invite ten people who make the best videos of French recipes on Instagram. The grand final is plan to be in Jakarta, 19 October 2023. The winner of the competition will be determine by a jury consisting of French and Indonesian chefs. Including Gilles Marx as Chair of the Indonesian Escoffier Student Association.
This event showcases France’s culinary heritage, various other activities such as workshops, cooking demonstrations, film screenings and discussions. Apart from that, there is the Mother of Spice exhibition by Hardian Eko Nurseto and Simon Baudoin in collaboration with artist Terranova Waksman.
In Bandung, for example, there are six restaurants involved, namely Apero Café, The Goodlife, Wheels Coffee & Roasters, Khas Rotiselai, Warung Ubiibu, and The Dairyman Cheese. “Supporting programs include screenings of the films Delicieux and L’Aille ou la Cuisse,” said Ricky Arnold, Person in Charge of Culture and Communications at IFI Bandung, Tuesday 17 October 2023.
Culinary and cultural exchange
The French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste and ASEAN, Fabien Penone, said Gastronomy Week was an opportunity for the Indonesian people to get to know the diversity of French gastronomy. The art of French cuisine was named by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of mankind in 2010. French cuisine is often known through its famous and exclusive restaurants. “In fact, restaurants such as bistros and brasseries, bakeries and cake shops, and cafes offer products at affordable prices,” he said at the opening of the event on October 12 2023 in a written statement.
