Jokowi meets Chinese PM Li Qiang, demands investment commitment of USD 44.89 billion. President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi met with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang in a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta. The President encouraged China to support the realization of a number of cooperation and investment commitments in Indonesia. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who accompanied Jokowi, said the president noted a new investment commitment from China of US$ 21.7 billion. This was conveye to Li Qiang. “As well as the commitment to expand investment of US$ 44.89 billion which was conveye at a business meeting in Chengdu,” said Retno Marsudi, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat website on Saturday, September 9 2023.

In terms of infrastructure cooperation

Foreign Minister Retno said the Indonesian government hopes that the Jakarta Bandung high-speed train (KCJB) cooperation project can be complete soon. Apart from that, President Jokowi also encouraged the concrete implementation of cooperation between Indonesia and China in the development of the Archipelago Capital City (IKN).
The head of state also encouraged concrete implementation of the IKN Authority’s cooperation with Shenzhen for development planning. “As well as inviting active participation from the private sector and Chinese state-owned enterprises in the construction sector for IKN development,” he said.
At the meeting, Retno explained, the two state leaders also discussed optimizing the cooperation framework in the fields of profitable trade and investment. Jokowi also asked China to add to the list of exports of Indonesian products there.

“Mr President asked for support for adding to the list of exports such as swallow’s nests from Indonesia. Meanwhile, in terms of air connectivity, Jokowi is of the view that cooperation between Indonesia and China has not yet reached maximum capacity. For this reason, the number one person is pushing for additional flights from Indonesia to China.
